Sexist Jokes in Comedy : Why Are They Funny but Risky?

Teori humor menjelaskan mengapa sesuatu bisa membuat kita tertawa. Salah satunya adalah Teori Superioritas, di mana kita tertawa karena merasa lebih unggul dari orang lain. Candaan seksis sering bekerja dengan cara ini, menjadikan perempuan sebagai objek lelucon yang inferior.
Masalahnya, humor membentuk kebiasaan. Jika candaan seksis terus dibiarkan, ini bisa menormalkan pelecehan. Orang yang terbiasa menertawakan lelucon yang merendahkan perempuan bisa kehilangan empati terhadap korban pelecehan seksual.
Lebih jauh, candaan ini bisa menjadi awal dari perilaku serius, membuka jalan bagi pelecehan fisik. Komedi selalu berkembang, Dulu, lelucon rasis atau homofobik dianggap biasa, tapi sekarang banyak komedian mulai meninggalkannya karena sadar akan dampaknya. Candaan seksis juga seharusnya demikian. Humor tidak harus menyakiti untuk bisa lucu. Sebagai komedian atau penikmat humor, kita bisa menciptakan budaya tawa yang cerdas tanpa merendahkan orang lain.Humor theory explains why something makes us laugh. The problem is, humor is part of the culture. If sexist jokes is seen as no big deal, they can normalize harassment. People who frequently laugh at jokes that degrade women may lose their empathy for victims of sexual harassment.
Even worse, these jokes can start more serious behavior, leading the way for physical harassment. Comedy changes over time, There was a time when racist and homophobic jokes were widely accepted, but today, many comedians avoid them because they understand their impact.
