As of July 2024, the NTB Police have handled 72 cases of violence, 47 of which were sexual violence. This number reinforces the fact that teenagers are a vulnerable group facing the ongoing threat of sexual violence.
Given the high number of sexual violence cases, prevention must start early, one of which is through peer educators. Peer educators are teenagers trained to provide information, especially about sexual violence, to their peers. In addition to educating their peers, they can serve as a bridge between victims and authorities to report incidents.
Moreover, joining communities that advocate against violence is another way to expand understanding of sexual violence. It is crucial for us to recognize if we experience it. Through peer educators and communities that raise awareness, we can prevent sexual violence. If we don’t speak up today, who will speak up tomorrow?- Affiliation
